1. Does this mean I can come off my depression medication?
Yes clients usually come off their depression medication. We’ll send notes back to your GP with your permission. You’ll need to schedule an appointment to review your medication and to step down off it in a measured way. This needs to be done in consultation with your GP. You should not change medication or dosage without medical advice.

2. Do I need to repeat the treatment?
No. Because we’re coaching you on how to get out of being depressed and have you practice the process of doing that, clients usually stay depression free. You’ll often hear them comment that they have tools or techniques to get out of being depressed. So it means anytime they start to go there they immediately change that. We’ve never had to repeat the process. We have from time to time needed to remind them of it, “Are you doing the process?” and then they typically do it.
When you have the treatment this will all make sense to you and you’ll have the same “aha!” moment as you learn how to quickly and easily come out of being depressed.

3.Can I become a Shinnick Depression Practitioner?
We are training Practitioners now. If you are medically qualified* either as a Medical Doctor or General Practitioner, Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Mental Health Worker, NLP Therapist, Hypnotherapist, or Natural Health Practitioner** then check our training pages and information and contact us to find out more.
* We have a specific programme for clients and regardless of your medical modality, we require that you have clients go through the programme as we train it.
** We support people being trained in the process who currently work with depression or work with patients with similar sorts of issues. We would expect for example to train a Physiotherapist in this process.

4. Where is the treatment available?
Currently it’s available with a number of practitioners around New Zealand: Find a Depression Practitioner (LINK). We are starting the process of training practitioners in Australia later this year and will follow that with trainings further afield. The Clinical Trial and research for this process involves Medical Professors, GP’s and Researchers from New Zealand, Australia, England, USA and Canada. The programme is being talked about around the world and it’s our objective to have this treatment available in the mainstream.
We need funding support, Philanthropists Wanted.
The treatment is also available over skype in a limited way.

5. Where was this treatment developed?
It’s been developed here in New Zealand through research and development being done by Des Shinnick who works at www.vivachi.co.nz . He’s been working away on a number of treatments and has developed highly successful methods for treating depression, anxiety, dyslexia and anger or rage.
He has available other highly successful treatment methods for trauma, abuse, grief and phobia’s. These treatments are all drug free. Further he’s interested in research on asthma, uclers, IBS, IBD, and Crohns disease utilising the skills and programmes that he has.
His biggest challenge is funding and financial support. Right now he’s looking for philanthropic donations to speed up research and knowledge in this area. Check the following page Philanthropist Wanted.

6. Is there any research?
There is growing research on talking therapies with most being done around CBT. There is also research around coaching. Shinnick Depression have also developed a shorter form of the process for Medical Doctors in General Practice. That process is currently being researched by the University of Auckland. At Shinnick Depression we support research and integration into the medical community.
We are expecting further Clinical Trials and ongoing research to support the results we have been getting and those that have been trained have been getting with clients.

7. How successful is the treatment?
The treatment has a very high level of success. You can check this client video for a medical practitioner who has been testing the process and when this video was done he’d run it 12 times with patients and all were successful.
He had one patient that he couldn’t get to follow the process. That gives him a success rate of over 90%. We’ve used this with hundreds of patients over a number of years with a very high level of success.

8. What are talking therapies?
The term talking therapies would apply to the likes of CBT, Counselling, NLP Therapy, Psychotherapy and Psychology where treatment was done through the process of talking and coaching. When any of these dispense drugs then that be a medical drug based treatment.
There are many talking therapies. Some focus on talking about the problem. We don’t support that method given that is a key structure internally for depression and we believe often ids the client in becoming more depressed.

9. Does this include hypnosis?
No we only using coaching and talking therapies. You would never be treated with hypnosis as part of this programme.

10. Is this safe?
Yes. The Shinnick Depression method involves coaching you on new skills and utilising talking therapies to help you let go of things that have been weighing you down and triggering your depression as well as showing you how to come out of being depressed.
We consider this to be safe as coaching and talking therapies are amongst the oldest and longest established forms of treatment; and drug free.
